Dead Rising Review

Dead Rising, the popular zombie game by Capcom, was one of the several games featured in our Xbox 360 Zombie Games post. As one of Xbox 360’s biggest thrillers, the game is known for its action-packed game play and exciting plot.  Killing zombies was never more difficult, and this title proves that it is not easy for Frank West, who is the protagonist.  Many have found the game fascinating for the detailed experience that it provides.  For instance, users can visit the shopping mall and try out different items from the various stores.  In addition, unlike similar zombie-killing titles, Dead Rising offers a number of unique ways to defeat your undead foes.

Probably the most exciting aspect of Dead Rising is the repeated attacks from zombies.  It should be noted that the zombies travel in large groups and can even be present in the hundreds.  The title has also grown popular for its detailed sound effects, which enhance a player’s gaming experience.  While many have tried to compare Dead Rising to Resident Evil, the two are actually quite different.  Resident Evil focuses more on night terror and frightening experiences, while Dead Rising is known to be more action-packed and exciting.

As far as the plot is concerned, the idea of the game is to kill all of the zombies that have invaded the town of Willamette, Colorado.  Frank West is flying on a helicopter over the town, and realizes that all communication has been disabled.  In addition, road blocks have been set up all across the town, making it clear that conditions have become serious and that the town is in turmoil.  After being dropped off at a local shopping center, West states that he needs three days to defeat the zombies that have invaded the town.  The missions in the game are coined as case files and are ordered in a linear fashion.  There are even a handful of side missions that can be accomplished if desirable.

While there are clearly a number of reasons to play Dead Rising, it does have its flaws.  For one, the save capabilities make it difficult for a user to continue where he or she left off.  In other words, when a case file is begun, it must be completed up to a certain point otherwise a player may need to start over.  However, many have raved that Dead Rising is a title that people enjoy playing over and over again, making it a popular choice for enthusiastic gamers.
